As a virtual team member you now have the optional to choose between weekly online rehearsals with a director or working on your own along with 3 rehearsals led by Karel.

Virtual Teams:
Virtual teams are new to Karel Flores World Teams and we couldn’t be more excited about it! We have so many dancers who want to train with us, but are in cities without a local KF team. Joining a virtual team is a perfect way to train hard and be a part of our community from your own city.
We ask all virtual members to submit a short video of you dancing a KF combo. This will help us to assess your level to be sure that you are assigned to the best team for you. (more details below!) Watch this brief combo of Karel!
If there is an in-person team in your area and you indicate on the sign-up form that you are interested in joining an in-person team, we will happily connect you to your local team.
You now have two exciting options for virtual teams:
Option 1: You will be assigned to a virtual team based on your geographic location and your level to ensure that you have the most rewarding experience with your team. Reheasals will be held weekly, just like in-person teams. They will be held via live video conferencing (ie: Zoom, etc) and the exact date and time will be based on team member and director availability.
Option 2: You will train on your own along with professionally recorded videos teaching you a choreography along with a warm-up and some across the floor skills. You will have 3 rehearsals led by Karel.
We are initially limiting the size of virtual teams so that you receive personalized attention from your director and have a chance to get to know the other members of your team.

STEP 1 (VIRTUAL ONLY): Prepare a video to submit of your dancing. (Note: This is only required for virtual members)
We require a video so that we can connect you with dancers with a similar level and find the best team for you! Learn this brief combination from Karel and record yourself dancing it. Please upload your video to YouTube and send us a private link in the sign-up form. (Note: Your video does not need to be posted publicly.) Click here to view the combination on YouTube.

Next Steps:
Once you submit your sign-up form and video link (virtual members only), we will get in touch with you via email and connect you with the KF World Teams director in your city or match you with the best virtual director, if your preference is a virtual team.

FAQ:
What level of dancer do I need to be?
In order to be a successful member of Karel Flores World each dancer should have a firm grasp of On 2 timing and be able to successfully execute advanced beginner level shines like a Suzy-Q plus, a grapevine, etc. This typically translates into at least 18 months of consistent salsa training. Don't worry, we will evaluate your level through your audition submission and match you with a team that is suitable for your needs and your current level. The choreographies are always challenging, but we are here to help you acquire with the skills you need to grow as a dancer.
How long do I need to commit to a team?
We ask that all dancers commit for a minimum of 1 year.
Do I have to audition?
If you are interested in joining a virtual team, we ask that you submit a video of your dancing so that we can find the best fit for you. In-person dancers may need to audition with the team in their city. Auditions for in-person teams is at the discretion of the local director.
Can I join the KF NYC team?
KFNYC is Karel’s own pro team based in New York. Advanced dancers are always welcome to inquire about joining. Auditions are not currently scheduled, but if you are located in NY, please reach out to us or speak with Karel at her next in-person class.
How much does it cost?
Monthly in-person dues are paid to your local director and vary by location. Virtual team members send in monthly dues directly to the KF World team PayPal account. Dues are based on your region and the local cost of living is taken into account.
When is rehearsal?
The date and time of your weekly rehearsal will vary according to each team. Your director will set a date and time that works for the group. If you are interested in a virtual team, please ensure that you provide your availablility in the application form. This will ensure that you are matched with a team that has similar availability for rehearsal times.
Will I have the opportunity to meet with Karel?
Absolutely! Karel will meet with all team members twice a year during the Zoom trainings and she loves to meet up with her dancers at events. During the KF World Team Training you will get a chance to train directly with Karel and share the stage together.
What routines will I get to learn?
KF World Teams 2.0 is launched with an exciting choreography, Pruébalo and a 2nd new choreography La Malicia is currently being worked on. The previous choreographies aren’t currently available, but stay tuned for throwback seasons where you’ll get to choose one of your favorite KF choreos to learn!
I’m not sure I want to perform- is it required?
No, it’s not required to perform, but it can be a fun and rewarding experience. We focus a lot of training, not just performance, so there is space for all types of dancers within KF World. Be sure to speak with your own director if you are hesitant about performing.
If I am a virtual team member, will I have the opportunity to perform in person?
Yes! Even virtual team members have several opportunities for in-person performances: during the Karel Flores World Teams annual training, if you attend a congress where Karel is performing with a local team and even your Virtual Team Director may schedule performances for the team at events that are accessible to the team.
Is there an option to join a Spanish language team?
Yes! We are in the process of setting up a Spanish language virtual team and there might be other in-person options in the future. Please note though that while your director will communicate in Spanish, all videos, Zoom trainings, and the members website will be in English.
Can I change virtual teams?
Although we strive to get your placement correct from the outset, there may be occasions when a team member has been assigned to a team that is not a good fit. Luckily, we have a number of virtual teams so we can find the right fit for you in a team where you can grow and develop as a dancer. Please remember to always communicate any concerns or questions, we are always here to help!
