How to Sign-Up:

STEP 1: Prepare a video to submit that showcases your dancing. (Note: This is only required for new directors)

We require a video for two reasons: 1) we want to be sure our directors have a strong foundation in salsa and have a good grasp on various fusion techniques and 2) a video allows us to see how Karel can help you grow as a dancer. You have the option to send us a link that you already recorded that shows your dancing (at a performance, social dancing, in class, etc) or you can learn one of Karel’s combinations and record yourself dancing it. Please upload your video to YouTube and send us a private link in the sign-up form. (Note: Your video does not need to be posted publicly). Whichever option you select please ensure that the video is a full body view of you dancing and that you are demonstrating a variety of techniques. Click here to view the combination video on YouTube.

STEP 2: Click on the red button below to fill out the sign-up form. You’ll be able to add your video at the end of the form.

Next Steps:

Once you submit your sign-up form and video link, we will get in touch with you via email to communicate the outcome of your application and next steps.

We’re always here to answer any additional questions you may have!

Note that we are in the process of signing up directors and members, so please note it might take us a few days to reply to inquiries. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible!

FAQ:

  1. Do I need to have previous experience with teaching or running a team?

No, you don’t necessarily need to have previous experience with running a team. Many of our directors are teachers, but some are doing this for the first time. We are here to help you along the way and provide you with the tools to make sure you succeed. It’s important that you have the necessary dance experience and feel confident teaching.

  2. How much dance experience do I need?

We are looking for advanced/professional dancers to lead our teams. If you are unsure of your level, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can help determine together if a team is right for you.

  3. Why do you require a video of my dancing?

We want to be sure our directors have a strong foundation in salsa and a video allows us to see your level as well as how Karel can best help you grow as a dancer. We also want to be sure that our directors all have adequate dance experience to be able to teach Karel’s choreographies.

  4. Can I start later?

If you aren’t quite ready to start now, then you can still join through the early Summer 2024. After this, we ask that you wait to join until late Fall 2024 when we release our next choreography. We do this in order to provide consistency and improved training so you can get the most benefit from our teaching tools and working with other directors. All KF World teams will learn and perform the same choreographies at the same time this allows us to be able to effectively collaborate and offer training support to one another.

  5. Do I have to hold auditions?

Most directors hold auditions to find local dancers in their communities. If you already have a group of dancers who want to form a team, it’s not required to have auditions.

  6. Can I work with a co-director?

Yes! Sometimes it takes additional help to run a team and you can absolutely split the responsibility with a co-director.

  7. Is there a size limit or a recommended number of dancers I can have on my team?

We leave the team size completely up to you since you know what will work best in your city.

  8. When should I have my team rehearsals?

The date and time of your weekly rehearsal will vary according to each team. You can decide on a date and time that works best for you and your team.

  9. How long do I need to commit to a team?

We ask that all directors and dancers commit for a minimum of 1 year.

  10. How will the Zoom meetings work and what if I miss one?

Once you become a director, you’ll receive a calendar with all of the important dates for the upcoming season. Director meetings will take place approximately every 6 weeks via Zoom. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with fellow directors and we think the meetings are really beneficial. We know life gets busy though, so if you need to miss a meeting at some point, it’s ok.

  11. What routines will I get to learn and teach to my team?

KF World Teams 2.0 launched with an exciting choreography, Pruébalo and a 2nd new choreography La Malicia is currently being worked on. We’ll be starting a new choreography in April 2024. The previous choreographies aren’t currently available, but stay tuned for throwback seasons where you’ll get to choose one of your favorite KF choreos to learn!

  12. Will I have the opportunity to meet and work with Karel?

Absolutely! Karel will host 2 virtual training sessions, including the director kick-off meeting and all-member Zoom training, and will join director Zoom meetings when she is able to. She loves to get to know all of her directors personally and enjoys meeting up with her dancers at events. During the KF World Team Training you will get a chance to train directly with Karel and share the stage together.

  13. Are the teaching materials available in Spanish?

We love our Spanish language teams! While you will communicate with your team in Spanish, all videos, Zoom trainings, director meetings and the members’ website will be in English.

  14. Can I include virtual members in my team?

All members of your team must live in a commutable distance from where you direct your team. Though some members may occasionally attend rehearsals virtually, you are not permitted to have fully virtual members unless they are also a KF World Team Virtual Director.

  15. I submitted my application, what can I expect next?

Thank you for your application submission! We will review all of your materials and will typically respond to you within 3-5 business days. Please look out for an email from us with the next steps! We look forward to having you join our community!

  16. Where can I see a list of all KF World Teams? Click here to view our teams. You are welcome to reach out to the director directly or we’re happy to connect you as well!
